There is a myriad of shopping experiences – from boutiques to high street brand names; department stores to small designer shops; discount outlets to waterside retail experiences.
For daily convenience, the villages of Bracklesham Bay and East Wittering offer a small selection of shops and restaurants typical of any English seaside resort.
For a more comprehensive choice you need to venture a little further afield. Just eight miles inland is the historical cathedral city of Chichester, often described as being shaped by the past and living in the present.
And that’s not counting the numerous craft fairs and food fairs that can tantalise the prolific shopper throughout the year!
The retail area is near the 900-year-old Norman cathedral and Tudor Market Cross and is laid out in a cross shape, with North, South, East and West Streets.
When you tire of shopping you can revitalise yourself at one of the numerous eateries – there is a culinary cornucopia of coffee shops, cafés, tea-rooms, bistros and restaurants.
A little further away to the west is Portsmouth and Southsea (25 miles), which offers a diverse range of shops and eateries. Gunwharf Quays offers around 100 designer outlets and cosmopolitan bars and restaurants on terraces overlooking the harbour.
Landscaped in a historic setting the famous Dockyard is just a short walk away, as is Old Portsmouth where you can sample the fare from vibrant fish markets, quaint tea-rooms and traditional pubs.
Less than 40 miles away to the East is cosmopolitan Brighton, which boasts a wealth of shops from modern shopping centres to quirkier boutiques and antique shops. The vast number of eateries in Brighton range from familiar chain restaurants to independent places to dine offering a range of national cuisines.
